Summer Komikon 2009 part 1

Last Saturday, May 16, 2009, the Summer Komikon was held in UP Bahay ng Alumni.
I arrived there at around 9AM.
I saw Wilson Tortosa, Gerry Alanguilan, Norman Isaac, Lyndon Gregorio, Manix Abrera, Hazel Manzano, Ariel Atienza, Gilbert Monsanto and Paolo Fabregas. Yes, Paolo Fabregas, he’s the son of character actor Jaime Fabregas. Too bad I didn’t take so many shots of the event as I’m too preoccupied with selling my stuff, roaming around, and talking with artists. However, compared last year, I roamed around more.
Bien del Rosario and Gio Paredes were also there. Man, I think momentum is starting to be at Gio’s side. His fan base is expanding consistently. Bien, on the other hand, didn’t participate as an exhibitor. Still , he supported GradS Tayo and Kalayaan. Thank you very much Bien and Gio. There are others whose real names I can’t recall. You know who you are! To my Indie seatmates (the Saging comics, Colleague, and “Alien Reunion”), thank you very much for the good times. Hope to see you next time!
In my personal opinion, the Summer Komikon is a success. I’m expecting better this coming October or November, the “main” Komikon.
Actually, my plan is to set aside comics this year. However, because of the upcoming events in store, I think that plan should be put on hold. After all, I want to see and be a part of Komikon Awards 2009.
By the way: I joined the Komikon Idol partially because I love to sing, but mainly because I’m starting to get sleepy. Guess what? I won! It was unexpected, because all I want is to enjoy Komikon. I have prices from Jack TV, one of the sponsors, and 2 tickets courtesy of Enchanted Kingdom (another opportunity to date sweet girl Amie). Thank you very much Enchanted Kingdom and JackTV!

Yes, there are graduate professors who are so generous with grades, but watch out for the Comprehensive exam. Usually, graduate students passed the Specialization and Philosophy, but flunk Statistics and/or Research in their first take. Well, maybe partially because students really know their specialty...but that's another story

it's true...I know a Department Head of A State University who earns only P5000 (i don't know if it's every 15 days and if it's every month) for being the Chairman of a department. Decades of corruption, i believe, by the past and even current administration in the government have been the reason why Department Heads in SUCs have that kind of salary. It should have been higher and tuition should have been lower (it's still low, but it could have been lower) if not for corruption.

Not all people into rock and metal (although some say that metal is a subgenre of rock) are into promiscuous lifestyle, especially today. Brian May of Queen has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics or astronomy (if i'm not mistaken). Gene Simmons claimed to be a "straight edge". In fact, there are metal heads i know that are called "straight edge" or who doesn't do drugs, smoking, and even drinking (maybe a few i guess).

Bugoy realized this truth first hand, and this truth is behind his back, LITERALLY.

Everyone has issues in insecurities sometime in their life, but what i don't like is insecure people pulling others down. Every time I sense that kind of insecurity, I can't help but remember this Filipino children song "Alimango". Here it goes:

Tong, tong, tong, pakitong-kitong
Alimango, sa dagat
malaki at masarap
mahirap
mahuli sapagkat nangangagat
tong, tong, tong, tong pakitong-kitong.

Naaaah, the lyrics doesn't have anything to do with insecurity, it's the "alimango" or "crab".

If you're familiar with crab mentality, then you know what I mean.

Pieces of advice: if you're experiencing insecurity, don't hit other successful people down. Instead, surrender that insecurity to God and make Him your security. Then, take time to improve yourself.

There are middle level managers who use their position "to get even" with the teacher (even to their immediate subordinate) they despise. Usually, those who always say the words, "it's not personal" are the ones doing things personal.

Provided that that teacher is tearing the organization apart (with evidence to back it up), this is so wrong because:
1) it is a waste of time on part of the middle level manager,
2) it is a waste of taxpayer's money when you use even your time just to hit,
3) it shows that the middle level manager doing this doesn't pick someone his own size, thus, being "sort of a bully",

Still though, if you're a teacher (especially in public schools), give a room for respect and tolerance to your immediate superiors. Despite their weaknesses, they earned their place there. After all, when the going gets tough, it's their heads that are at stake, not yours. Don't find it a pleasure hitting your immediate bosses. On the bosses reading this, pick someone your own size if you really want a fight. Don't personalize your subordinates. That negative act will come back to haunt you, one way or the other

The title of this strips is "Vwisiting Alumnus" it's a portmanteau (is my spelling right?) of "Visiting" and "Bwisit" (a Tagalog word equivalent for "pain in the neck"/"thorn in my side"/"bloody" phrase common in English speaking countries). In this series, Melchor G. Baltazar visited his former school, his teacher, now a principal, and his classmate, now a teacher himself.

There are school principals/administrators who are so insecure that they don't want their teachers to enter graduate. They may have their justifications, but still, most of the time, allowing teachers to enter graduate school and obtain their Master's degree is a wise choice. Yes, there are some who turned out to be jerks and proud beings, but it's not their graduate education. In cases like that, pride is already in their heart loooooong before graduate school; they just found a way to execute that pride with justification and, well, class.

Melchor G. Baltazar, the cocky guy

This is Melchor G. Baltazar or "Balt". He's the most hated character (among his schoolmates/peers).

He's your typical cocky guy. This makes Dr. Salvador concern with his direction as a graduate student. He's know for throwing sarcastic one liners, but with statements that hit you to your bones.

If you're following GradS Tayo since day 1, You'll notice his one liners are subject of ire to his peers. Most of the time, his one-liners will causes him being hit, punched, thrown out, etc. Still though, I consider Balt as a symbol of "biting truth". Thus, i consider Balt as an anti-hero.

Hello there. This site is about my comic strips entitled GradS Tayo. Yes, I may post few topics here on other stuff, but still, this is about my comics strip GradS Tayo. Lord willing, this site will feature also my upcoming...well...works.

As days go by, i hope i can make time to improve this site. After all, this site is all about my comic strips and other comic strips that catch my attention.
